These plants are shrubs. This plant in the summer assumes a bluepurple colouring; it is medium in size and can reach 3 m high. It doesn't keep its leaves in the winter. The development is erect, they tend to grow both in height and in width, giving origin to a rounded shrub.

Fertilization Stickpea
To obtain a florid development it is important to remember to fertilize our shrubs periodically; in the spring letís use a fertilizer rich in nitrogen and potassium, which will favour the development of new vegetation and of flowerings. We can intervene at the end of the winter, mixing a good dose of slow release organic fertilizer to the soil surrounding our plant. During the spring it is also possible to act periodically, with liquid or powder fertilizers, to add to the water when irrigating, every 20-25 days.

Letís avoid watering the the Stickpea excessively, always leaving the soil dry for a few days between one watering and the other, therefore letís irrigate the substratum deeply every 2-3 weeks with 1-2 buckets of water . If we decide to grow a specimen of the Stickpea in a container, we should remember that it will have slightly different needs compared to a specimen grown in the ground: we should pay more attention to its water and nutritional needs and check more often for possible development of parassites.

As the day-time temperatures rise at the beginning of the spring, it is agreeable to practice a preventive treatment, with a wide-range insecticide, which should be applied when there arenít flowerings in the garden. Before the buds become too large, it is advisable to also treat them with a wide-range fungicide, to prevent the development of fungal diseases which spread easily when there is an elevated environmental moisture.
