The Crocus should be grown in a bright place, with direct sunlight. If necessary we can extract the bulbs from the ground, during the vegetative rest; after letting them dry we should place them in a cool, dry and dark place. During the most indicated season we can plant them again.The Crocus should be grown outdoors; it can bear very harsh temperatures without any problems, even many degrees below zero.
Generalities Crocus
These plants grow covering the whole land at their disposal. The Crocus is small in size and 10 cm in height; in the spring it assumes a white colouring. These plants aren't evergreens, which means they lose their leaves some months during the year. These plants have trunks or roots which store nourishment, originating bulbs or tubers.
Fertilization Crocus
Bulbous plants use nutritious substances stored from the previous year for their flowering ; this is why usually the soil should be enriched, during planting, with a slow release or organic fertilizer. Later we must fertilize with a specific fertilizer for bulbous plants, every 15-20 days, starting from the moment in which the first flowers are withering.
Watering Crocus
Water rarely, about once every 1-2 weeks with 1-2 glasses of water , keeping the soil dry for a few days before watering again; when wetting we suggest avoiding surpluses, however to wet the soil deep down. These plants don't need too much water; staying in a soil which is too damp, can easily cause the development of rotten in the bulbs.
Treatments Crocus
Generally during this time of year we suggest a pre-emptive treatment with wide range insecticide and with a systemic fungicide, to prevent the attack from part of the aphids and the development of fungus diseases, often favoured by a mild and damp climate.
Soil Crocus
Locate in a deep and dissolved soil, with an accentuated drainage.
