The Oxygen-weed should be preferably located in a place where it can have at least a few hours a day of direct solar light. Our water plants can't bear cold temperatures therefore we can move them inside the house, placing them in large containers. These plants aren't afraid of the cold weather and can be grwon in the garden throughout the whole year.
When growing these plants tend to go up, developing very little in width, and they tend to have a columnar development. This plant in the spring, summer, autumn, winter assumes a green colouring; it is medium in size and can reach 25 cm high. It doesn't keep its leaves in the winter. These plants are grown in water gardens.
During the spring months we can add a specific fertilizer for our plants, green or flowering ones, to the water of our water garden . On the market there are also specific fertilizer which come in bars or in granular form, to be planted near the plants to melt constantly in about 3-4 months.
Watering must be abundant and very regular, trying to keep the soil slightly humid; we suggest to avoid surpluses. Let's water it every 0-1 weeks with 1-2 buckets of water . These plants need a great quantity of dampness; they should be placed on shores, or sea beds, or small ponds. If grown in a large container, usually the water should be substituted every 15-20 days.
As the day-time temperatures rise at the beginning of the spring, it is agreeable to practice a preventive treatment, with a wide-range insecticide, which should be applied when there aren’t flowerings in the garden. Before the buds become too large, it is advisable to also treat them with a wide-range fungicide, to prevent the development of fungal diseases which spread easily when there is an elevated environmental moisture.
Aquatic plants need a heavy, scarcely drained, constantly humid soil.
