The Zinnia is a year or two year long plant. Growing they develop a round-shape shrub. Zinnia isn't an evergreen; during the spring, summer, autumn, winter it assumes a red colouring; the adult species are medium in size and reach 60 cm in height.
Temperatures Zinnia
For a balanced development of the the Zinnia it is advisable to locate it in a place where it is exposed to at least a few hours of direct sunlight. The Zinnia can't tolerate freezings, therefore it is best to grow it in a cold green house or in an apartment; during late Spring we can place them outside, when all risks of freezings are unprobable.Annual plants are usually not grown during the cold period; as autumn arrives we can uproot them and save the seeds for the year after.
Irrigation Zinnia
Let’s water these plants only when the substratum is clearly dry using 2-3 glasses of water ; during this period of the year we should intervene every 1-2 weeks , or even less if the weather is rainy. As autumn comes these plants tend to perish, we can diminish the waterings, or even interrupt them.
Adversity Zinnia
The spring weather, with a high temperature swing between the day and night hours, and pretty frequent rains, can favour the development of fungus diseases, which should be treated pre-emptively with a systemic fungicide, to use before the gems grow excessively; at the end of the winter we also suggest a wide range insecticide to prevent the attack of aphids and cochineals. We should always remember to do these treatments when there aren't flowerings in the garden.
Substrate Zinnia
Let’s grow these plants in a soft and dissolved, but well drained, soil.
